BW917 Coconut Extreme- My New Forever Wax

I honestly never thought I would jump on the “natural” wax bandwagon. Mostly because I hate the propaganda associated with using soy. Such as, it is “natural” where paraffin is not. Yet, interestingly, both come from our earth, and both are extremely processed to be made into candle wax. Ugh, I just don’t get it.

So, when I decided to get back into making candles, I went straight back to my favorite paraffin wax. But, as Covid did to so many businesses, the supplier was closed and that wax was made specifically for them. So, back to the drawing board I go.

I tested (too many) IGI candle waxes: IGI 4627, IGI 4636, IGI 4630, and IGI-blah-blah-blah- However, they were duds for me. Then I tried MP117 (exclusively at Candle Science) and it was my winner-winner chicken dinner! Well, almost. I wanted to increase burn time, and reduce soot. So, I decided to add some soy, GB464, to the recipe to see if I could accomplish this. I would say it worked well, but the candles just didn’t completely make me happy. Then, after speaking to the owner of Candle Cacoon, Lyschel I decided to try the BW917 Coconut Extreme wax… and I am never going back!

What I Noticed Most

After test-burning my first round of candles with BW917 the difference was obvious and glaring. The coconut wax containers all came out cleaner than anything I’ve ever seen. Between the lovely wax, and quality concentrated oils (both from Candle Cacoon), these candles are the cleanest burning I have ever personally made.

The image on the left: all containers are coconut wax except the container in the far back left corner. It was paraffin. The image on the right, the container on the left is coconut wax, container on the right, is paraffin. For me, the difference is staring me in the face.

For me, looking at these containers, the difference is so obvious and BW917 Coconut Extreme from Candle Cacoon is my forever wax, and I will save the paraffin for wickless candles and melts, that way soot is not something I need to worry about. Without a flame, it is a non-issue.

The Benefits Of Coconut Wax

Using coconut wax offers several benefits compared to traditional waxes such as paraffin or soy. Here are some advantages:

  • Biodegradable: Coconut wax is renewable, and biodegradable and does not contribute to the depletion of fossil fuels.
  • Clean Burning (see image above): Coconut wax burns cleanly with minimal soot and smoke, promoting healthier indoor air quality. This leads to less residue buildup on walls and surfaces compared to other waxes.
  • Longer Burn Time: Candles made with coconut wax typically have a longer burn time, allowing for more enjoyment.
  • Enhanced Scent Throw: Coconut wax has excellent fragrance-holding properties, resulting in a more robust and consistent scent throw. This creates a pleasent ambiance.
  • Smooth Texture: Coconut wax’s smooth and creamy texture enhances the appearance of candles and ensures even burns, contributing to their esthetic appeal.
  • Supports Coconut Farmers: Choosing coconut wax supports coconut farmers and their communities, particularly in regions where coconuts are primary agricultural product. This helps sustain their livlihoods and local economies.
  • Versatality: Coconut wax can be blended with other waxes and additives to achieve desired characteristics, offering flexibility for candle makers to create unique products.
  • Non-Toxic: Coconut wax is non-toxic and does not release harmful chemicals when burned, making it a safer options for households, especially for those with sensitivities to synthetic fragrances or addititives.

Overall, coconut wax offers numerous benefits for both candlemakers and consumers, making it a popular choice in the candle industry. Coconut wax is also quite popular for both “Luxury”, and “Massage” candles, showing its versatitlity and high quality.

Conclusion About BW917 Coconut Extreme

There’s lots of waxes out there to choose from and coconut wax is just one of many. But if you think it is a wax you want to try, don’t hesitate. It is a great, high quality wax that I use for both containers and wax melts. And for reference, BW917 is primarily coconut wax with soy and beeswax, which is why I think it works so well for melts too. And I personally love Candle Cacoon and their quality products. Their candle fragrance oils are top notch, highly concentrated oils, and without phtalate since conception.
